Alexa Conners founded In Your Corner to help athletes and their families navigate mental health challenges and prevent crisis.
She was diagnosed with complex PTSD following a family and community tragedy, during which her father murdered his fiancé, a beloved teacher, mother, and friend to many, before taking his own life. Prior to this tragedy, Alexa grew up understanding the importance of having a friend in times of need. She moved fifteen times throughout her childhood in a tense family environment, and she experienced pressures as a standout high school basketball player while growing into her identity as a gay woman.
Alexa began her career as a mixed martial artist in 2012 and quickly fought through the amateur ranks. After her father’s death in 2015, Alexa threw herself into her life as a fighter and earned a professional debut with Invicta Fighting Championships the following year. Alexa posted a 5-4 professional record before pausing her career as a fighter in order to heal from years of endured trauma.
Alexa has since returned to a career in engineering sales. Therapy and support from her family, friends, and MMA peers have enabled Alexa to live a happier and healthier lifestyle. With In Your Corner, Alexa aspires to help others find the mental health resources and support networks that will help them do the same.
